Modernisation works on the A4 motorway, section Katowice-Krakow - update
With user safety in mind, modernisation works are currently underway on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. The company is making every effort to ensure that these works do not significantly affect the capacity of the route, maintaining two lanes in each direction.
ROAD SURFACE REPLACEMENT
1) the carriageway towards Kraków between the Mysłowice junction and the toll plaza in Mysłowice, i.e. from km 348 to km 351.
- one lane is open on the carriageway towards Krakow,
- two lanes are available on the carriageway to Katowice for travellers heading towards Katowice and one lane for travellers heading towards Krakow (both directions will be separated by a special barrier).
PLEASE NOTE! From 26 June 2025, after the completion of the renovation of the road to Krakow, there will be a change in the traffic organisation on this section.
2) From 23 June this year, on the section between the toll plaza in Mysłowice and the Jeleń junction in Imielin, from km 352 to km 355:
- one lane will be open on the carriageway towards Krakow,
- two lanes will be available on the carriageway to Katowice for travellers heading towards Katowice and one lane for travellers heading towards Krakow (both directions will be separated by a special barrier).
Please note! On the road towards Krakow, exiting the car park behind the gates will require stopping before the ‘STOP’ sign.
3) On the section between the Rudno junction and the toll plaza in Balice from 392 to 396 km:
- on the carriageway towards Krakow, one lane is open,
- on the carriageway towards Katowice, two lanes are available for traffic heading towards Katowice and one lane for traffic heading towards Krakow (both directions will be separated by a special barrier).
The completion of works on the above-mentioned section of the motorway is planned for the end of July this year.
4) on the carriageway towards Krakow, just after the toll plaza at the Balice toll plaza, i.e. from km 400+500 to km 401+200
- on the carriageway towards Krakow, there are two lanes available for travellers heading towards Krakow and one lane for travellers heading towards Katowice (both directions will be separated by a special barrier),
- on the carriageway towards Katowice, one lane is open,
- on the S 52 expressway, one lane is also closed.
Please note! On the road towards Krakow, when exiting the car park behind the gates, you must stop before the ‘STOP’ sign.
BRIDGE RENOVATION
The bridge in Chrzanów between the Balin junction and the Chrzanów junction (km 370) is undergoing renovation:
- the carriageway towards Katowice is closed for a section of approx. 400 m,
- on the carriageway towards Krakow, there are 2 narrowed lanes towards Katowice and 2 narrowed lanes towards Krakow for a section of approx. 400 m (both directions are separated by a special barrier).
The completion of the above-mentioned renovation is planned for December 2025.
Proper maintenance of the infrastructure of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway, including the road surface and engineering structures (including bridges and viaducts), is required not only by applicable regulations, but also by the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which obliges the concessionaire to hand over the motorway to the public sector in 2027 in excellent technical condition, i.e. one that will not require repairs and modernisation in the coming years.
