Works on the A4 motorway, section Katowice-Krakow - update

We kindly inform you that the current traffic difficulties on the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway are caused by modernization and repair works of the motorway infrastructure. The main objective of these works is to ensure an appropriate level of safety for drivers using the motorway.

Proper maintenance of the infrastructure of the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway, e.g. carriageways and engineering structures (including bridges) results not only from the applicable regulations, but also from the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which obliges the concessionaire to hand over the motorway to the public party in 2027 in perfect technical condition, i.e. one that will not it required renovation and modernization over the following years.

BRIDGE RENOVATION IN MYSŁOWICE

On a section of approx. 1 km (from km 348 to km 349):

  • the carriageway towards Katowice is closed,
  • on the carriageway towards Kraków, 2 narrowed lanes are intended for traffic in the direction of Katowice and 2 narrowed lanes for traffic in the direction of Kraków.

Completion of works is scheduled for November 2023.

As a result of the works carried out, the usability properties of the bridge will be improved, its service life will be extended and its aesthetics will be improved.

RENOVATION of Brzeczkowice junction in Mysłowice (km 349) - crossroads of A4 motorway and S1 expressway - bridge renovation and replacement of the road surface

  • exit from the A4 motorway from the direction Katowice to the S1 expressway towards Łódź is closed (the Katowice-Łódź slip road). The detour will be led first at the Brzeczkowice junction, taking the exit from the A4 from the direction of Katowice to the S1 towards Cieszyn, then after approximately 1 km through the Brzezinka junction in Mysłowice along the S1 road and, after turning around at this junction, again along the S1 expressway towards Łódź,
  • exit from the S1 expressway from the direction of Cieszyn onto the A4 towards Katowice is closed (the Cieszyn-Katowice slip road). The detour will be led along the S1 expressway to the Sosnowiec-Jezor junction and, after turning around at this junction, again along the S1 expressway towards Cieszyn until the exit onto the A4 towards Katowice.
  • narrowings on both carriageways under the bridge: towards Kraków and toward Katowice, while maintaining traffic with two narrowed lanes and speed limit to 60 km/h.
  • on the S1 road, on both roadways (in the direction of Łódź and Cieszyn) in the area of ​​the bridge over the A4 - 2 narrowed traffic lanes with a speed limit of 60 km/h.

ATTENTION! Drivers taking the S1 expressway from Cieszyn or from Łódź towards Katowice are recommended to use the national road No. 86. Also, drivers driving the A4 motorway from Wrocław towards Łódź or Cieszyn are recommended to use the national road No. 86.

Completion of all works is scheduled for November 2023.

As a result of the works carried out, the following will occur: improvement of the functional properties and extension of the useful life of the bridge, improvement of surface evenness, load-bearing capacity and its functional properties, proper drainage of the road body and anti-corrosion protection, increased safety of users of the junction, and improvement of the aesthetics of the bridge.

RESURFACING OF THE MOTORWAY A4 Katowice-Krakow

Between the Jelen junction in Jaworzno and Balin junction in Chrzanow, on the section of approx. 7 km (from km 362.2 to 368.9), two narrowed lanes in each direction.

At present the surface of the carriageway towards Krakow is repaired:

  • on the carriageway towards Krakow one lane is renovated, the other is passable,
  • on the carriageway towards Katowice there are two traffic lanes towards Katowice and one lane towards Krakow.

Speed ​​limit: 80 km/h.

Afterwards the carriageway towards Katowice will be renovated on the same section. Both carriageways of the above section will be renovated by the end of 2023.

Replacing the motorway's surface will increase its durability and load-bearing capacity and improve its anti-skid properties, thereby improving motorist safety. Surface drainage will also be improved.

 

Resurfacing on toll plazas in Myslowice and Balice

Until 1 December 2023 one lane on each toll plaza will be modernised.
