Works on the A4 motorway, section Katowice-Krakow - update

We kindly inform you that the current traffic difficulties on the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway are caused by modernization and repair works of the motorway infrastructure. The main objective of these works is to ensure an appropriate level of safety for drivers using the motorway.

Proper maintenance of the infrastructure of the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway, e.g. carriageways and engineering structures (including bridges) results not only from the applicable regulations, but also from the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which obliges the concessionaire to hand over the motorway to the public party in 2027 in perfect technical condition, i.e. one that will not it required renovation and modernization over the following years.

RESURFACING OF THE MOTORWAY A4 Katowice-Krakow

Between the Jelen junction in Jaworzno and Balin junction in Chrzanow, on the section of approx. 7 km (from km 362.2 to 368.9), two narrowed lanes in each direction.

At present the surface of the carriageway towards Katowice is repaired:

• on the carriageway towards Katowice one lane is renovated, the other passable,
• on the carriageway towards Krakow two traffic lanes towards Krakow and one lane towards Katowice.

Speed ​​limit: 80 km/h.

On the carriage towards Katowice, the exit from the A4 motorway onto the national road No. 79 to Jaworzno at the Byczyna junction and the exit to the Zastawie Rest Area is possible only from the right lane. From the left lane it is not possible to exit to Jaworzno and the Zastawie Rest Area.

During the current temporary traffic organization, entry to the motorway from the Kępnica Rest Area and from the slip roads at the Byczyna and Balin junctions is possible after stopping at the STOP sign. Please be especially careful and obey road signs.

Replacing the motorway's surface will increase its durability and load-bearing capacity and improve its anti-skid properties, thereby improving motorist safety. Surface drainage will also be improved.

In Chrzanow (km 370) on the section of 400 meters two narrowed lanes in both directions.

Until 22 December 2023 one lane in the direction of Krakow is closed.
