A4 Katowice-Kraków: Work begins on the replacement of road surface between Katowice and Mysłowice
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska begins the process of replacing the road surface on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway between Murckowska junction in Katowice and Brzęczkowice junction in Mysłowice. As of Monday, 12 February 2024, temporary traffic management will be introduced due to the repair of the carriageway in the direction of Kraków. The process of replacing the road surface on the carriageway in the direction of Katowice will begin as of July. Throughout the entire period of work, two traffic lanes will remain open in each direction.
During the 1st stage of work, changes to traffic management will be introduced on the carriageway to Kraków on an approx. 4 km-long section, i.e. from km 343 to km 347. Next, as of 27 March 2024, the section under repair will be extended to 7 km, i.e. from km 341 to km 348. On the carriageway to Kraków one traffic lane will be undergoing repair, while the other will be open to traffic. On the carriageway to Katowice two traffic lanes will be open in the direction of Katowice and one lane in the direction of Kraków.
In July, repair work will move to the carriageway to Katowice, where one traffic lane will be undergoing repair, while the other will be open to traffic. On the carriageway to Kraków traffic lanes will be open in the direction of Kraków and one lane in the direction of Katowice.
Both carriageways on the aforementioned section of the A4 motorway will be repaired by the end of November 2024.
The replacement of road surface on the motorway will improve its durability and load capacity, improve its anti-skid properties and, therefore, enhance the safety of motorway users. It will also improve surface water drainage.
The proper maintenance of infrastructure on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway, including road surfaces and engineering structures, such as bridges and flyovers, stems from the applicable provisions and regulations laid down in the Concession Agreement. Pursuant to these provisions and regulations, the concessionaire is under an obligation to transfer the motorway to the public partner in 2027 in perfect technical condition that does not require any repair and modernization throughout the next years.
Work related to road surface replacement and engineering structure repair will be carried out until the end of 2026, excluding winter periods. The contractor performing said work is PAVIMENTAL Polska Sp. z o.o. based in Trzebinia. The contract value is approx. PLN 423 million net.
