INTERNET USERS ENCOURAGE DRIVERS TO USE THEIR PHONES WISELY_COMPETITION FOR CYBERNAUTS WITHIN THE EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN "BE #SMA4RT, DRIVE SAFELY!” COMPLETED

22 10 2014 #Press information

"Someone is rather waiting for you, not for your message”, "I prefer to hear 'I love you' at home and not on the phone”, "Daddy, do not cause us additional trouble, don't type SMSes in your car” are some of the winning messages sent by cybernauts from all over Poland, who took part in a competition organised as part of the campaign "Be „smA4rt, drive safely!”. The messages are to encourage drivers to use phones responsibly while driving. The selected messages can now be used as templates in a special application and sent to friends and relatives to encourage them to drive safely.

Out of almost one hundred messages encouraging drivers to use their phones wisely while driving, representatives of the concessionaire of the A4 Katowice-Krakow – the organiser of the campaign "Be „smA4rt, drive safely!” - and motorway police supporting the campaign have chosen winning messages. They are now used by cybernauts as templates for SMS messages that can be sent via a Facebook app at: www.facebook.com/A4KatowiceKrakow to the phones of their relatives and friends to encourage them to use their phones responsibly while driving.

– Family, friends and relatives are people who can influence the behaviour of drivers to the greatest extent. We hope that the engagement of cybernauts in sending messages to drivers, whose safety they care about most, will make the drivers change their improper habits and use their phones wisely, caring for their own and other road users' safety – says Rafał Czechowski, the spokesperson for Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.).

The aim of the campaign "Be „smA4rt, drive safely!”, that has lasted from 9 October, is increasing the awareness of drivers concerning wise use of phones while driving and in accordance with the Traffic Code. The website www.badzsmart.pl has also been launched as part of the action, with tips for drivers and passengers, results of a nationwide survey carried out among drivers and interesting information concerning the use of phones while driving. Winning messages sent by cybernauts in the competition "Be #smA4rt, drive safely":

1.     Someone is rather waiting for you, not for your message.
2.     Driver, remember! A phone can save someone's life but it can also take it, when used irresponsibly while driving.
3.     SMS messages will wait, they are not wild horses, they do not run away! Remember that children are waiting for you at home, so drive carefully and wisely, and take this SMS seriously!
4.     Do you want to do something good for traffic safety? Use a hands-free system when you drive!
5.     Driver! When you use a phone while driving, you do not pay attention to other vehicles! You pose a danger to traffic safety and put yourself, your family and fellow travellers at risk!
6.     The phone distracts and driving requires focus. Every conversation can wait!
7.     Each person's life is important, so driver, please use your smartphone wisely. Best do it after you stop and not when you fight on the road every day.
8.     Use the phone wisely because the consequences of recklessness may not only interrupt your conversation but also wreck your plans, dreams and dramatically change your destination.
9.     Don't talk on the phone when you drive because by being unfocused, you can cause an accident.
10. Do you talk on the phone when you drive? This means that you do not pay attention to other cars! You pose danger on the road and make the wrong choice!
11. The message concerning using phones while driving should be formulated in this way: when you talk while driving your response time is short!
12.    The phone requires attention. You lose it only for one moment on the road and your family may be in trouble. Use your phone wisely.
13.    Nothing happens when you don't read this SMS now. Many things will change if you do not reach home because of your inattention.
14.    Do not talk on the phone when you drive not to be sorry. Life is a valuable gift, so do not waste it.
15.    I prefer to hear "I love you" at home and not on the phone.
16.    Daddy, do not cause us additional trouble, don't type SMSes in your car.
17.    Remember! You are not alone on the road. If you look away for 2 seconds at the speed of 140 km/h, you drive a few dozens of metres not seeing what is there on the road!
18.    Life, although beautiful, is very fragile. One mistake is enough to end it! Drive safely, a phone can wait.
19.    You make a call - you lose your head. You lose your head - you don't think. You want to seem smart - don't talk on the phone in your car without a hands-free system.
20.    Honey, don't call me when you are driving because then you do not pay attention to other vehicles! We will talk till you drop at home;) I love you!

About Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.)
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. It is the first fully functional road of this kind in Poland, built within the framework of public-private partnership as a brownfield investment – modernisation of the road built in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has held the concession for its adaptation to the requirements of a toll motorway and operation since 1997. This required numerous investments. All investment projects, including current maintenance of the road, are financed from tolls for using the concession stretch and from loans obtained from an international bank consortium. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
