STALEXPORT AUTOSTRADA MAŁOPOLSKA S.A. REMINDS US HOW TO TRAVEL SAFELY ON MOTORWAYS

4 07 2013 #Press information

The holiday season has begun. The A4 Katowice-Krakow is one of the roads that drivers will choose to go on holiday. Thinking about safe trips the concessionaire is reminding travellers about the safety rules on motorways and provides a film from travelling on the A4 with information about exits to roads crossing the motorway. The material is accessible at: http://youtu.be/AlwFThq2yt4

- When planning the journey it is worth to consider that there are slightly different driving conditions on motorways than on other roads. Regardless of the chosen route it is worth to remember about basic safety principles. To reach our holiday destination safely and quickly it is worth to get to know the route in advance. That is why we have prepared a film presenting the current situation on the A4 Katowice-Krakow, with Rest Areas, junctions and crossings featured in it – says Rafał Czechowski, the spokesperson for Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A.

SAM S.A. reminds us how to travel safely on motorways. It is possible to download a manual of safe motorway travel from the concessionaire's website at http://www.autostrada-a4.com.pl/bezpieczenstwo/porady-dla-kierowcow. It was prepared in cooperation with the police and the Main Road Transport Inspection.

Major guidelines of experts concerning driving safely on motorways:

Fifteen minutes for yourself
Driving with steady speed on a long stretch of straight road may be tiresome and boring. And fatigue may lead to loss of concentration. A rule of thumb is: two hours of driving, a 15 minute break - on a motorway you can stop at a Rest Area or a filling station.

Emergency braking only when absolutely necessary
Remember that the average speed on a motorway is much higher than on other roads. Do not brake suddenly for no reason or to change direction (e.g. to exit a motorway on a junction as a result of a sudden decision). In this way you put yourself and other road users at risk of an accident. Use emergency braking only when it is absolutely necessary, e.g. in order to avoid collision with another car.

Take care of children
Before leaving the house make sure that your children have something to do during the trip. An angry and crying child makes it more difficult for the driver to concentrate. On a motorway it is not so easy to stop and solve your child's problem.

Do not get used to speed and lack of obstacles
The style of driving on a motorway with no sharp turns or pedestrian crossings is completely different from driving on other roads. Exiting the motorway remember to be extra cautious and to adjust your driving style to new conditions and regulations.
