Modernisation works on the A4 motorway, section Katowice-Krakow - update

With user safety in mind, modernisation works are currently underway on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. The company is making every effort to ensure that these works do not significantly affect the capacity of the route, maintaining two lanes in each direction.

SURFACE REPLACEMENT

1) on the carriageway towards Katowice between the toll plaza in Mysłowice and the Mysłowice junction, i.e. from km 348 to km 351.

  • one lane is open on the carriageway towards Katowice,
  • on the carriageway towards Krakow, there are two lanes available for travellers heading towards Krakow and one lane for travellers heading towards Katowice (both directions are separated by a special barrier).

Please note! The exit towards Łódź and Cieszyn at the Brzęczkowice junction is only possible from the right lane.

The planned completion date for these works is September 2025.

2) on the carriageway towards Katowice, between the toll plaza in Mysłowice and the Jeleń junction in Imielin, from 352 to 355 km:

  • on the carriageway towards Kraków, two narrowed lanes are available.

Please note! When exiting the car park behind the gates, you must stop before the ‘STOP’ sign.

3) on the carriageway at the toll plaza in Balice – work is being carried out on both carriageways (directions) with only one toll lane closed in each direction.

BRIDGE RENOVATION

The bridge in Chrzanów between the Balin junction and the Chrzanów junction (km 370) is undergoing renovation:

  • the carriageway to Katowice is closed for a section of approx. 400 m,
  • on the carriageway to Kraków, for a section of approx. 400 m, there are 2 narrowed lanes in the direction of Katowice and 2 narrowed lanes in the direction of Kraków (both directions are separated by a special barrier).

The completion of the above-mentioned renovation is planned for December 2025.

Proper maintenance of the infrastructure of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway, including the road surface and engineering structures (including bridges and viaducts), is required not only by applicable regulations, but also by the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which obliges the concessionaire to hand over the motorway to the public sector in 2027 in perfect technical condition, i.e. one that will not require repairs and modernisation in the coming years.
