Modernisation works on the A4 motorway, section Katowice-Krakow - update
We would like to inform you that the final stage of modernisation works (resurfacing of the carriageway) is currently underway on the A4 Katowice–Kraków motorway. The works will be carried out with minimal impact on traffic flow, with two lanes open in both directions.
ROAD SURFACE REPLACEMENT
In the direction of Kraków, between the Byczyna junction and the Rudno junction, there are changes to the traffic organisation on two sections:
from 368.8 do km 372.4 oraz od km 376.2 do km 380.4:
- nn the carriageway towards Katowice, one lane is open (work is ongoing on the other),
- on the carriageway to Kraków, two lanes are available for those travelling towards Kraków and one lane for those travelling towards Katowice (both directions will be separated by a special barrier).
PLEASE NOTE: Access to the motorway at the Balin and Chrzanów junctions is possible only after stopping at the ‘STOP’ sign.
Exit from the motorway at the Chrzanów and Balin junctions from the carriageway towards Katowice is possible only from the lane of that carriageway (the main carriageway).
Completion of works on these sections on both carriageways is scheduled for the end of June 2026.
REPAIRS TO THE BRIDGE STRUCTURE in Balice, km 400
From 15 June 2026 until mid-August this year, repairs will be carried out on the reinforced concrete elements of the bridge structure in Balice. Traffic disruption:
- closure of the right-hand side of the carriageway towards Katowice (the right-hand lane and the hard shoulder on the side of the southern Kraków ring road),
- within the works zone, traffic will be restricted to a single left-hand lane for journeys from the northern Kraków ring road and two lanes for journeys from the southern Kraków ring road,
- speed limit reduced to 50 km/h.
Detailed information on traffic management is available at https://www.a4info.pl/
The proper maintenance of the A4 Katowice–Kraków motorway infrastructure, including the road surface and engineering structures (such as bridges and viaducts), is required not only by current regulations but also by the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which obliges the concessionaire to hand over the motorway to the public sector in 2027 in excellent technical condition, i.e. in a state that will not require repairs or modernisation in the years to come.
We apologise for any disruption to traffic and ask you to pay particular attention to road signs.
