Modernisation works on the A4 motorway, section Katowice-Krakow - update
Traffic management from 25 August this year.
We would like to inform you that the final stage of modernisation works (resurfacing of the carriageway) is currently underway on the A4 Katowice–Kraków motorway. The works will be carried out with minimal impact on the route’s capacity, with two lanes open in both directions.
ROAD SURFACE REPLACEMENT
On two sections in the direction of Kraków: between the Mysłowice toll station and the Byczyna junction, and between the Rudno junction and the Balice toll station, the following traffic arrangements apply:
- from km 358.1 to km 362.3 and from km 396.3 to 400.1, on the carriageway towards Kraków, one lane is open (work is underway in the other lane),
- on the carriageway towards Katowice, there are two lanes available for those travelling towards Katowice and one lane for those travelling towards Kraków (the two directions are separated by a special barrier).
PLEASE NOTE!
- the exit to the Kępnica and Morawica motorway service areas is only possible from the right-hand lane on the carriageway heading towards Kraków.
- access to the motorway at the Jeleń junction and from the Zastawie and Aleksandrowice motorway service areas is only possible after stopping at the ‘STOP’ sign.
Work on these sections of both carriageways is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2026.
REPAIRS TO THE BRIDGE STRUCTURE in Balice, km 400.6
In August this year, repairs are carried out on the reinforced concrete elements of the bridge structure in Balice. Traffic disruption:
- closure of the right-hand side of the carriageway in the direction of Katowice (the right-hand lane and the hard shoulder on the side of the carriageway facing the southern Kraków ring road),
- within the works zone, traffic is restricted to a single left-hand lane for vehicles approaching from the northern Kraków ring road and two lanes for vehicles approaching from the southern Kraków ring road, speed limit of 50 km/h.
Detailed information on traffic management is available at https://www.a4info.pl/
Proper maintenance of the A4 Katowice–Kraków motorway infrastructure, including the road surface and engineering structures (such as bridges and viaducts), stems not only from the applicable regulations but also from the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which obliges the concessionaire to hand over the motorway to the public sector in 2027 in excellent technical condition, i.e. in a state that will not require repairs or modernisation in the years to come.
We apologise for any disruption to traffic and ask that you pay particular attention to road signs.
