Works on the A4 motorway, section Katowice-Krakow - update

6 03 2026 #New #Warning

We kindly inform you that at the beginning of March, the final stage of modernisation works (road surface replacement) began on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. The works will be carried out without significantly affecting the capacity of the route, with two lanes maintained in both directions.

ROAD SURFACE REPLACEMENT

1) on the road towards Kraków between the Chrzanów junction and the Rudno junction, i.e. from km 376 to km 380.

  • one lane is open on the carriageway towards Kraków,
  • on the carriageway towards Katowice, there are two lanes available for travellers heading towards Katowice and one lane for travellers heading towards Kraków (both directions will be separated by a special barrier).

Work on this section on both carriageways is scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2026.

2) From 7 March, work will be carried out to change the traffic organisation on the carriageway towards Kraków between the Byczyna junction and the Rudno junction, specifically from km 368 to km 373. At night, the above-mentioned section of the motorway may be narrowed to one lane.

However, from 11 March:

  • one lane will be open on the carriageway towards Krakow,
  • two lanes will be available on the carriageway towards Katowice for travellers heading towards Katowice and one lane for travellers heading towards Krakow (both directions will be separated by a special barrier).

Completion of work on this section on both carriageways is scheduled for the end of May 2026.

Proper maintenance of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway infrastructure, including the road surface and engineering structures (including bridges and viaducts), is required not only by applicable regulations, but also by the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which obliges the concessionaire to hand over the motorway to the public sector in 2027 in perfect technical condition, i.e. one that will not require repairs or modernisation in the coming years.

We apologise for any traffic disruptions and ask you to pay special attention to road signs.
