A4 Katowice-Kraków: Changes in traffic organisation due to repairs at the Brzęczkowice junction

27 09 2023 #Press information

From the last week of September until the beginning of November, further changes in traffic organisation will be introduced at the Brzęczkowice junction in Mysłowice. These are connected with the continuation of repairs to the bridge and the surface of the junction.

The concessionaire of the toll section of the A4 motorway will be successively closing and opening the slip roads of the Brzęczkowice junction (the intersection of the A4 with the S1 road), which enable leaving or entering the A4 motorway, and traffic will be detoured.

On 28 September this year, the Łódź-Kraków and Krakow-Cieszyn slip roads will be opened at the Brzęczkowice junction.

On 29 September this year, the exit from the A4 motorway from the direction of Katowice onto the S1 road towards Łódź (Katowice-Łódź slip road) will be closed. The detour at the Brzęczkowice junction will first lead via the exit from the A4 from the direction of Katowice onto the S1 towards Cieszyn, then after approx. 1 km via the Brzezinka junction in Mysłowice along the S1 road and, after turning back at this junction, again via the S1 expressway towards Łódź.

On 29 September, the exit from the S1 from the direction of Cieszyn onto the A4 towards Katowice (Cieszyn-Katowice slip road) will also be closed. The detour will lead via the S1 road to the Sosnowiec-Jęzor junction and, after turning back at this junction, again via the S1 road again towards Cieszyn up to the A4 exit towards Katowice.

Adequate maintenance of the motorway infrastructure (including the surface and engineering structures) results from current legislation and is a requirement of the Concession Agreement and the consequent need to hand over the A4 motorway to the public in good technical condition in 2027. The aim of the repairs is to increase the safety of junction users by ensuring that the carriageway surface along the S1 road is in good condition - improving its evenness, bearing capacity and anti-skid properties; by repairing defects in surface drainage elements - drainage ditches and culverts; by replacing guard rails. The bridge's performance properties and aesthetics will be improved and its useful life extended.

Completion of all works at the Brzęczkowice junction is scheduled for November 2023.

Detailed information on the dates and location of changes in traffic organisation will be published each time on the website: www.ia4.pl, on X: twitter.com/A4KatKra and at the Road Information Points.

Information about SAM SA

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-km section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. This is the first fully operational road of this type in Poland, built as part of the public-private partnership, as a brownfield project  on the basis of the road constructed in the 1970s  and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. obtained a license for its adaptation to the requirements of the toll motorway and operation in 1997. It required numerous investments. All investment projects and current maintenance of road lanes are funded from revenues obtained from the collection of tolls for the concession section and loans received from the international banking consortium. Unlike other concessions for the management of toll motorways, the project implemented by Stalexport Autostrada S. A. does not burden the State Treasury with any obligations. Moreover, it has not received any grants or guarantees of the Treasury.
