A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway: Changes in traffic rules at the Brzęczkowice junction

27 03 2023 #Press information

On Thursday 30 March, new traffic rules will be introduced at the Brzęczkowice junction in Mysłowice, concerning the exit from the A4 motorway onto the S1 expressway.

Due to repairs to the bridge at the Brzęczkowice interchange (349 km mark), the exit from the A4 motorway onto the S1 expressway will be closed for traffic incoming from Kraków and headed towards Łódź. A diversion will be made along the motorway, towards Katowice to the Murckowska junction, and then along the DK86 and S86 roads towards Sosnowiec/Siewierz.

The repairs on the Brzęczkowice bridge are also accompanied by the following changes and signage informing of the new traffic rules:

  • there are two narrowed lanes with a speed limit of 60 km/h on the carriageway towards Kraków, under the bridge. A "STOP" sign has been placed on the slip road of the Łódź-Kraków junction (merging traffic from the S1 to the A4 motorway),
  • there are two narrowed lanes with a speed limit of 60 km/h on the carriageway towards Katowice, under the bridge. A "STOP" sign has been placed on the slip road of the Cieszyn-Katowice junction (merging traffic from the S1 to the A4 motorway),
  • there are two narrowed lanes with a speed limit of 60 km/h on the S1 road's carriageway towards Łódź, near the area of the bridge over the A4 motorway.

The exit from the A4 motorway onto the S1 will be closed until mid-May 2023.

Detailed information on the dates and location of changes in the traffic organization are published on the website www.ia4.pl, twitter.com/A4KatKra and at the Road Information Points.

Information about SAM SA

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-km section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. This is the first fully operational road of this type in Poland, built as part of the public-private partnership, as a brownfield project  on the basis of the road constructed in the 1970s  and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. obtained a license for its adaptation to the requirements of the toll motorway and operation in 1997. It required numerous investments. All investment projects and current maintenance of road lanes are funded from revenues obtained from the collection of tolls for the concession section and loans received from the international banking consortium. Unlike other concessions for the management of toll motorways, the project implemented by Stalexport Autostrada S. A. does not burden the State Treasury with any obligations. Moreover, it has not received any grants or guarantees of the Treasury.
