8 09 2015 #Press information

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. is starting the extension of the Myslowice Junction located in the Silesian part of the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway. Until the end of the third quarter of 2016 at the cost of PLN 14.4 million (excl. tax) traffic in all directions will be possible on the Myslowice Junction. Construction works on the extension will start on 9 September.

Currently the Mysłowice Junction makes it possible to exit the A4 motorway from Katowice to ul. Obrzeżna Zachodnia only in the northern direction and also to exit the A4 motorway from Krakow to ul. Obrzeżna Zachodnia only in the direction of Northern Mysłowice. Besides, the junction will make it possible to enter the motorway from North Mysłowice in the direction of Katowice and Krakow. As part of the investment a roundabout will be built on the northern side of the motorway and on the southern side there will be an intersection with traffic lights. It will make it possible to exit the motorway from the direction of Krakow and Katowice to southern districts of Mysłowice, as well as to enter the motorway from these districts in the direction of Krakow and Katowice.

Temporary changes in traffic organisation will be introduced for the period of the construction works. From 9 September to mid-November the left (faster) lane will be closed around the Mysłowice Junction (km 346 + 859) on the roadway to Krakow on the section of about 2.4 km. Traffic will continue on two narrowed lanes (the right lane and the emergency lane) with the speed limit of 80 km/h.

Until 9 September around the Mysłowice Junction on the roadway to Krakow preparatory works will be carried out i.e. putting up the necessary signs informing about the planned changes in traffic organisation. Temporary narrowing to one lane with the speed limit of 80 km/h can be expected on the roadway in the Krakow direction. Also in the second half of September a temporary change in traffic organisation on the roadway to Katowice will be introduced, similar to the one described above.

Late in the evening of 11th September preparatory works connected with the change in traffic organisation will start at ul. Obrzeżna Zachodnia in Mysłowice and connecting roads of the Mysłowice Junction on the northern side of the motorway.

From 14 September the following traffic organisation on the above mentioned roads will be introduced:

  1. at ul. Obrzeżna Zachodnia right lanes on both roadways will be closed
  2. the right lane of the final section of the Krakow–Mysłowice connecting road will be closed

About Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.)

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. It is the first fully functional road of this kind in Poland, built within the framework of public-private partnership as a brownfield investment – modernisation of the road built in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has held the concession for its adaptation to the requirements of a toll motorway and operation since 1997. Meeting the concession obligations has required numerous investments. All investment projects, including current maintenance of the road, are financed from tolls for using the concession stretch and from loans obtained from an international bank consortium. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not receive the so-called availability payments from the State. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
