NEW RATES FOR AUTOMATIC PAYMENTS FOR THE A4 KATOWICE-KRAKÓW MOTORWAY. A4Go PRE-PAID CAN BE APPLIED TO USE THE MOTORWAY FOR TWO MORE YEARS AT THE SAME PREFERENTIAL RATES

10 09 2021 #Press information

For three weeks only, drivers using the pre-paid electronic toll collection system A4Go can buy toll impulses for the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway, which will remain valid for the next two years, cheaper by up to 30%. From 1 October 2021, the concessionaire will change terms and conditions for the use of preferential rates for automatic payments. By driving a car with Autopay, SkyCash and IKO applications, videotolling with ORLEN fleet cards or the A4Go on-board device, it is possible to save PLN 3 at each motorway gate. Preferential rates for vehicles of other categories will be abolished.

Users of the pre-paid electronic toll collection system A4Go will have the opportunity to take advantage of the toll-free travelling on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway at a price of:

  • PLN 8 for category 1 vehicles;
  • PLN 17 for category 2 and 3 vehicles;
  • and PLN 30 for category 4 vehicles

for the next two years, regardless of any changes introduced to the toll rates. All they have to do is to top up their on-board devices with impulses (trips) or register for the A4Go service and purchase the device together with a package of at least 20 impulses by the end of September this year.

From 1 October 2021, preferential rates for automatic payments will only apply to passenger cars. Drivers who choose to ride with A4Go, Telepass, apps such as Autopay, SkyCash, IKO or videotolling with ORLEN fleet cards will pay PLN 9 at each toll collection point, which is PLN 3 less than those paying by cash or card. Preferential rates for category 2, 3, 4 and 5 vehicles will be abolished. Additionally, the discount for drivers of category 2 and 3 vehicles will be reduced from PLN 15 to PLN 13. Following these changes, the motorway toll rates for drivers using traditional or automatic payments will amount to:

  • PLN 22 for category 2 and 3 vehicles;
  • PLN 35 for category 4 and 5 vehicles.

From 1 October 2021, the toll rate for users of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway driving category 1 vehicles who do not take advantage of automatic payments will remain at PLN 12 paid at each toll collection point. Motorcyclists will still be entitled to a discount of PLN 6, so they will pay PLN 6 on each gate.

"The pre-paid electronic toll system A4Go is a simple way thanks to which by buying extra impulses, we will not be dependent on any price list changes for the next two years and will be able to benefit from the current preferential rates for all vehicle categories. If impulses are not used within two years, full and unused packets of 20 impulses may be returned and the funds involved in their purchase will be recovered," claims Marta Dobrzańska from the press office of SAM S.A. "During rush hours, the share of automatic payments in the total number of transactions reaches over 45 percent. To meet the expectations of drivers, we have launched a second special gate dedicated to automatic payments, which is opened in situations of heavy traffic on the far left lanes of toll collection areas. This way, we want to further increase the capacity of the gates and the comfort of travelling on our motorway," she adds.

Information about SAM SA

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-km section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. This is the first fully operational road of this type in Poland, built as part of the public-private partnership, as a brownfield project  on the basis of the road constructed in the 1970s  and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. obtained a license for its adaptation to the requirements of the toll motorway and operation in 1997. It required numerous investments. All investment projects and current maintenance of road lanes are funded from revenues obtained from the collection of tolls for the concession section and loans received from the international banking consortium. Unlike other concessions for the management of toll motorways, the project implemented by Stalexport Autostrada S. A. does not burden the State Treasury with any obligations. Moreover, it has not received any grants or guarantees of the Treasury.
