TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ON THE A4 KATOWICE-KRAKÓW MOTORWAY - PREPARATORY WORKS IN THE AREA OF BALIN AND CHRZANÓW JUNCTIONS

30 08 2017 #Press information

In connection with the installation of gantries that will constitute supporting structures for electronic variable message signs (VMSs), on 25 August in the area of the Balin junction and on 29 August in the area of the Chrzanów junction, between 03:00 am and 4:00 am, the motorway will be closed to traffic in both directions for about 20 minutes. In addition, on 28 August in the area of the Chrzanów junction the right lane on both roadways will be partially closed.

Gantries on which variable message signs will ultimately be mounted will be installed in the area of the Balin and Chrzanów junctions in the next few days. They will be a part of the traffic management system that the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway concessionaire is going to implement. Assembly works conducted in the evening and at night will involve short-term changes in the traffic organisation.

On Friday, 25 August, between 03:00 am and 04:00 am, the motorway in the area of the Balin junction (370th km) will be closed to traffic in both directions for about 20 minutes. Drivers going to Kraków will be able to exit the motorway at the Balin junction whereas those going to Katowice at the Rudno or Chrzanów junction. On Tuesday, 29 August, between 03:00 am and 04:00 am, the motorway in the area of the Chrzanów junction will also be closed to traffic in both directions for about 20 minutes. Travellers going to Kraków will be able to exit the motorway at the Balin or Chrzanów junction whereas those going to Katowice at the Rudno junction.

Travellers heading to the airport in Balice or Pyrzowice should take to a longer travel time into account.

On Monday, 28 August, from 07:00 pm to 06:00 on the next day, the right lane of the roadway in the direction to Kraków after the Chrzanów junction (373rd km) will be closed over a distance of approx. 100 m. On 28 August, from 11:30 pm to 05:00 am on the next day, the right lane of the roadway in the direction to Katowice before the Chrzanów junction (373rd km) will be closed over a distance of approx. 100 m.

'The traffic management system is another action that SAM S.A. is taking to improve the comfort of the users of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. Thanks to the electronic variable message signs, the drivers will be kept informed about the current situation on the motorway. Due to the fact that preparatory works in the area of the Balin and Chrzanów junctions require a temporary closing of the motorway, they will be conducted at night when the traffic is the smallest. We will make every effort to ensure that they proceed smoothly; however, it is best to plan the trip for the time when this section of the A4 motorway will be fully passable,' says Rafał Czechowski, spokesman of SAM S.A.

The concessionaire also informs drivers about the works conducted on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway on a regular basis through the following websites: www.via4.pl, www.autostrada-a4.pl and via twitter (@A4KatKra) and facebook (a4katowicekrakow).

Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not receive the so-called availability payments from the State. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
