YANOSIK ASSISTS DRIVERS ON THE A4 KATOWICE-KRAKOW MOTORWAY_NEW COMMUNICATION TOOL AVAILABLE FOR A4 TRAVELLERS

13 08 2014 #Press information

"Drivers' Assistant on the motorway" i.e. the new functionality of the Yanosik application for mobile devices helps travellers on the A4 Katowice-Krakow. They can not only share information about the current situation on the motorway with its operator - the company VIA4 S.A. - but they also have access to plenty of useful information. Yanosik is another (after Twitter) useful tool for drivers for sharing important information with other users of the road and its operator.

The popular communicator for drivers (used by a community of a few hundred thousands of drivers), which makes it possible to choose the route, monitor traffic or check places with speed control, has been equipped with functions dedicated to the users of the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway. Travellers entering the concession stretch of the A4 and using the application get a welcome message with the phone number to motorway emergency service. In addition, with the help of Yanosik, drivers may check the location of the nearest filling station, restaurant or even prices of fuel on filling stations.

The application reacts when a car slows down (except for entrances and exits, Rest Areas and Toll Plazas). When a car's speed is suddenly reduced, what may suggest that it has broken down or stopped, the driver will get a message about which kilometre of the road they are currently at (such information is really helpful for motorway services or roadside assistance in order to quickly and easily get to the car). In addition a driver will get information how they should behave in case of a breakdown and they will get the number to Motorway Management Centre. They will be able to call for help without the need to leave the car.

The Motorway Management Centre that watches drivers' safety 24/7 is informed about each traffic incident reported by the users of the application, what lets motorway services react even quicker. In the future, the application will be supplemented with additional functions that will make it much easier to travellers to access information about current situation on the motorway.

- Predictability of the conditions on the road is an important element of comfort of driving and the ambition of the concessionaire is making the A4 Katowice-Krakow as friendly as possible to drivers. That is why a year ago we launched a Twitter profile of the concession stretch of the motorway where we provide up-to-date information for drivers. The solution that has just been introduced within the Yanosik application, dedicated to the A4 Katowice-Krakow, is another tool that easily lets drivers share important information with co-users of the motorway and the Motorway Management Centre – says Rafał Czechowski, the spokesperson for Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. – We hope that this solution will not only raise comfort of using the A4 Katowice-Krakow, but also the level of safety on this stretch of the motorway.

The application containing functionalities useful for travellers on the concession stretch of the A4 may be downloaded free from Google play, iTunes and Windows Phone.

About SAM S.A.
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. It is the first fully functional road of this kind in Poland, built within the framework of public-private partnership as a brownfield investment – modernisation of the road built in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has held the concession for its adaptation to the requirements of a toll motorway and operation since 1997. This required numerous investments. All investment projects, including current maintenance of the road, are financed from tolls for using the concession stretch and from loans obtained from an international bank consortium. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.

About Yanosik communicator
Yanosik is a social communicator for drivers, enabling them to easily inform each other about the situation on the road. A driver who is aware of what is waiting for them on the road – an inspection, a speed camera or a traffic incident – pays more attention to speed, what reduces the risk of dangerous situations on the road. Yanosik is the most effective solution of this kind in Poland. Information about traffic incidents that get to the system is checked by a number of algorithms and by users who confirm or cancel incidents. The communicator gathers a large community of users. Half a million unique users use Yanosik every month. The number of downloads to Android, iOS, Windows Phone and BlackBerry 10 platforms is almost 2 million.
