A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway: renovation of bridge at Brzęczkowice junction begins

25 01 2023 #Press information

The concessionaire of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway will be renovating the bridge at the Brzęczkowice junction in Mysłowice (junction of the A4 with the S1 road) over the next several months. Starting Wednesday, 25 January, the traffic organisation in this area will be changed. Drivers travelling from Tychy towards Katowice are advised to use National Road No. 86.

Due to the ongoing works, from 25 January the right-hand section of the carriageway of the A4 motorway in Kraków direction will be narrowed under the bridge, with traffic flow continuing in two lanes and a 60 km/h speed limit. A "STOP" sign will be placed on the slip road of the Łódź-Kraków junction (merging traffic from the S1 to the A4 motorway).

From 26 January, traffic on the narrowed right-hand side of the carriageway on the A4 motorway in the direction of Katowice will continue to operate under the bridge at a speed limited to 60 km/h, with two lanes in place. A "STOP" sign will be placed on the slip road of the Cieszyn-Katowice junction (merging traffic from the S1 to the A4 motorway).

On the night of 25-26 January, there will be a temporary narrowing of the carriageway to one lane in the direction of Katowice.

At the same time, a bridge over the motorway in Mysłowice (from km 348 to 349) is being renovated. Due to the works, the carriageway in the direction of Katowice is closed, and on the carriageway in the direction of Kraków two narrowed lanes are intended for traffic in the direction of Katowice and two for traffic in the direction of Kraków.

Repairs to the bridges will continue until autumn and will include repairs to bearings, railings and balustrades, the concrete surface and expansion joints.

Other renovation works

The road surface is being repaired at the Mysłowice (km 346) and Chrzanów (km 372) junctions. At the Mysłowice junction, the Mysłowice-Katowice slip road and parts of Obrzeżna Zachodnia street in the relation Mysłowice Centrum-Mysłowice Brzezinka is narrowed down to one lane. Traffic flow is restricted to one lane. Completion is scheduled for January 2023.

At the Chrzanów junction, on the other hand, the Kraków-Chrzanów slip road is currently closed. A diversion has been arranged through the remaining slip roads of the neighbouring Balin junction. The work is scheduled for completion in February this year.

Detailed information on the dates and location of traffic changes are published on www.via4.pl, twitter.com/A4KatKra and at the Road Information Points.

Information about SAM SA

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-km section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. This is the first fully operational road of this type in Poland, built as part of the public-private partnership, as a brownfield project  on the basis of the road constructed in the 1970s  and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. obtained a license for its adaptation to the requirements of the toll motorway and operation in 1997. It required numerous investments. All investment projects and current maintenance of road lanes are funded from revenues obtained from the collection of tolls for the concession section and loans received from the international banking consortium. Unlike other concessions for the management of toll motorways, the project implemented by Stalexport Autostrada S. A. does not burden the State Treasury with any obligations. Moreover, it has not received any grants or guarantees of the Treasury.
