REPLACEMENT OF PARTS OF ROAD SURFACE ON THE A4 KATOWICE-KRAKOW

10 06 2015 #Press information

Works on the replacement of road surface on the stretch of over 3 km of the toll-free section of the concession stretch of the A4 Katowice-Krakow will start today around 6 p.m. Construction works will be carried out between the Murckowska junction (intersection of the A4 with the national road 86) and Mysłowice junction, on the carriageway to Krakow. Temporary changes in traffic organisation will be introduced for the period of the construction works. Works are scheduled to finish on 30 June.

– On the toll-free section of the motorway, near the Murckowska junction, traffic flow in peak moments is sometimes even three times higher than on the rest of the concession stretch of the A4. After about nine years of such an intensive use of this section, the road surface needs replacement – says Rafał Czechowski, the spokesperson for Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A.

In connection with the planned works the following changes in traffic organisation will be introduced:

  •  vehicles going in the direction of Katowice will use two narrowed lanes with the speed limit of 80 km/h,
  • vehicles using the A4 in the direction of Krakow will use one lane with traffic diverted to the opposite carriageway. In the place where the road narrows from two lanes into one, the speed limit of 60 km/h will be introduced and on the whole narrowed stretch there will be the speed limit of 80 km/h,
  •  vehicles leaving the DK 86 on the Murckowska junction and going in the direction of Krakow will use one lane (left or right), alternating depending on the advancement of works, with the speed limit of 80 km/h.

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. keeps the drivers up to date with the changes in traffic organisation on the website (www.autostrada-a4.pl) and on Twitter (www.twitter.com/A4KatKra). All works connected with the replacement of road surface will be carried out in such a way to be the least troublesome for motorway users.

About Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.)

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. It is the first fully functional road of this kind in Poland, built within the framework of public-private partnership as a brownfield investment – modernisation of the road built in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has held the concession for its adaptation to the requirements of a toll motorway and operation since 1997. Meeting the concession obligations has required numerous investments. All investment projects, including current maintenance of the road, are financed from tolls for using the concession stretch and from loans obtained from an international bank consortium. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not receive the so-called availability payments from the State. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
